If you're a Montana driver and a proud member or supporter of Algeria Shriners, there's a straightforward way to show it every single day — right on the back of your vehicle.

Montana offers an Algeria Shriners specialty license plate, available through the Montana Motor Vehicle Division (MVD). It's a small thing with a real impact: every plate purchase generates a donation that goes directly toward Algeria Shriners' mission of providing free or low-cost healthcare for children in need.

What You Need to Know

  • Who can get one? Any individual or business that owns a passenger car, pickup, van, SUV, motor home, large truck, or bus registered in Montana. Sponsored plates are also available for trailers.

  • How much does it cost? The initial specialty plate administrative fee is $20, in addition to your standard vehicle registration fees. A portion of that fee flows back to Algeria Shriners as a donation.

  • Do I have to renew it? Yes — you register your vehicle annually, and each renewal includes a donation to Algeria Shriners. The one exception: if your light vehicle is 11 years or older and eligible for permanent registration (or if it's a trailer requiring permanent registration), you can make a one-time contribution and keep the plate permanently.

  • Can I personalize it? Montana allows personalized specialty plates for an additional $25 fee, plus $10 for each transfer or renewal of the personalized plate.

  • For all of these points, please see Montana MVD Specialty Plate page for specifics and the most accurate information.

How to Get Your Plate

Because the Algeria Shriners plate has eligibility requirements tied to membership, it can't be ordered online through the DMV website. Here's the process:

  1. Contact Algeria Shriners to request an application form — reach us at (406) 442-5305 or email Treasurer@AlgeriaShrinersInternational.org.

  2. Complete and return the application to Algeria Shriners for approval.

  3. Take your eligibility notification to your County Treasurer's office along with your registration documents.

  4. Pay the applicable fees and drive away with a plate that means something.

If your plates aren't available on the spot, you can purchase a 90-day temporary permit from the County Treasurer's office while you wait.

Why It Matters

This isn't just a bumper decoration. Every Algeria Shriners plate on Montana roads is a rolling reminder that there's an organization right here in Helena working to make sure cost is never a barrier when a child needs specialized medical care. Shriners Children's Hospital in Spokane serves Montana families with orthopedic care, burn treatment, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate, and more — regardless of a family's ability to pay.

Putting our plate on your vehicle is one of the easiest ways to support that work between now and the next fundraiser.

The Spring 2026 issue of The Algerian, the official newsletter of Algeria Shriners International, is now available.

Illustrious Sir Jason Ulrich kicks off the issue with a message from the North, highlighting the most important event on the calendar: the Spring Ceremonial, May 15–17, 2026, at the Algeria Shrine Temple in Helena. Whether you're a longtime Noble or relatively new to the fraternity, this is the weekend to be there — new members joining, old friendships renewed, and the traditions of Algeria honored.

This edition is packed with things you won't want to miss:

  • East/West Shrine Game Appreciation Dinners — Several Algeria clubs across Montana are hosting dinners to recognize the players and cheerleaders selected for the 2026 East/West Shrine Football Game, scheduled for June 20 at Naranche Stadium in Butte. Check the newsletter for dates, locations, and contacts in your area.

  • 50/100 Club — Pay It Forward — The Havre Rat Patrol kicked things off with a $500 donation in the name of the Tri-County Shrine Club. The challenge is on — can your club match it?

  • New Chief of Staff at Shriners Children's Spokane — Dr. Ted C. Sousa, a board-certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon and western Montana native, has been appointed Chief of Staff. A great story about the kind of people carrying forward our mission.

  • Notes from the Office — If you haven't received your new 2026 dues card, call the office (406.442.5305). Also, update your contact info so you don't miss a thing.

The full newsletter — including the Spring Ceremonial registration form, schedule of events, the Fundraiser Permission form, and the Petition for Membership — is included in this edition and available on the website.

Note: The Algerian will no longer be mailed. It will be distributed by email and through our site, exclusively. However, if you know somebody who would still like a printed copy, feel free to print a copy for them or call the office.

Es Selamu Aleikum.
